Reiki Pre & Post-Session Care
SESSION PREPARATION
IN-PERSON SESSION
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
If you can before your session, take some quiet time to meditate and prepare yourself for your time with me. Consider what you want to discuss and what you want me to focus on. Make sure to tell your loved ones that you will be unavailable so your time in your session is uninterrupted. Make sure you have eaten something light and are well-hydrated to make your session as comfortable as possible.
LOCATION
Your private session will take place in my home located at 3031 Pinehurst Ave. 15216.
PARKING
There is usually plenty of free on-street parking on any street around my home.
ACCESS
Please walk to the front door and knock. I’ll be waiting for you!
DRESS
Make sure to dress comfortably in loose-fitting clothes or whatever you will feel most comfortable sitting and lying in.
WHAT TO EXPECT
When you arrive we will take about 10 minutes to discuss what you’d like to focus on for your session. This is your time to tell me whatever you think is important for your session. You will then lie down on the table and I will go through my routine, then administer Reiki, and afterward, we will sit for about 15 minutes and I will go over what I did for you and any specific aftercare I think might help the integration. We will also discuss your experience and anything you’d like to tell me. Your total time with me will be one hour unless you decide to add on a Tarot session, in which case your total time will be 1 hour and 30 to 45 minutes.
DISTANCE SESSION
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
If you can before your session, take some quiet time to meditate and prepare yourself for your time with me. Consider what you want to discuss and what you want me to focus on. Make sure to tell your loved ones that you will be unavailable so your time in your session is uninterrupted. Make sure you have eaten something light and are well-hydrated to make your session as comfortable as possible.
Make sure you give yourself ample time to get comfortable and set up before your session, and also to integrate after your session. Here are a few tips to help you prepare and set up.
LOCATION
Find a place in your home that is quiet and where you won’t be disturbed. If you live with others, make sure they know not to disturb you during your session and also to “keep it down” in the house if they can.
PHONE
You’ll want to make sure your phone is properly charged (or plugged in) to last for the session length. Most people find that a phone headset is most comfortable (i.e. headphones/earbuds with a microphone so you can talk back to me). Alternatively, you can put your phone on speaker.
CONNECTING
I will call you at our scheduled time. If for some reason we cannot connect within the first 10 minutes, we will need to reschedule for another time. The first 10 minutes of your hour will be for us to discuss your goals and focus for your session. We will then hang up and I will perform distance Reiki for you. I recommend lying down on your bed during the time I am administering Reiki. Alternatively, you can sit in a comfortable reclining chair, or you may sit for the full hour in meditation. It’s most important for you to be comfortable and not distracted, however that looks for you. Make sure you have enough pillows, blankets, air circulation, or whatever you need to rest comfortably. Also, make sure you’ve used the restroom, eaten, and tended to your body’s needs beforehand.
CLOSING
I will call for the last 10 or 15 minutes of your session to discuss my treatment and answer any questions you may have.
RECORDING
I don’t record our phone sessions, however, you might like to. In that case, you could set up your phone to record our conversation or place one of your earbuds by a recording device for the session. Also, remember to turn the recording device on.
SESSION AFTERCARE
Everyone has a different experience after a Reiki session. You may feel tired, rejuvenated, cranky, joyful, or have a range of emotions. You may also feel things physically like a headache or tingling. This is all very normal because the Reiki energy is doing its thing and it takes time to integrate. The best thing you can do is remember to take it easy after your session. Below are a few tips for you to follow to make sure you’re caring for yourself in the best way to allow for maximum benefits from your session.
INTEGRATION
Many of the treatment benefits occur after the session – as such it’s important to take at least 15-20 minutes after the session to allow the energy to integrate.
HYDRATION
After doing any type of energy work it’s important to hydrate, so be sure to drink 1-2 glasses of water after the session. I find adding electrolytes can also be helpful – EmergenC or any favorite electrolyte additive is a great option.
FOOD
Energy work is often hungry work, and you may find yourself hungry after our session. Be sure you listen to your body and choose a healthy snack or meal afterward if needed.
REFLECTING
It’s often helpful to spend some time after the session reflecting, and I often recommend that clients journal, draw or somehow capture any insights they had during and immediately after the session. You may also decide to meditate afterward as well, take a walk in nature, or listen to (calming/inspirational) music. Whatever you choose to do, find an activity that helps you connect to what you experienced so you can draw on it in the future.
Please get in touch with me if you experience any overly challenging emotions, physical sensations, or issues after our treatment. Reiki is extremely gentle, and yet, because we are clearing energy blockages, issues may come up as a result. Email is the quickest way to get in touch with me if you are having post-session difficulties. You can reach me at hello@elizabeth-craig.com
The most important key to our Reiki session is to do what you need to do to take care of yourself before, during, and after. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
